Valuing People says that people with learning disabilities should get the same support and protection from harm and abuse as other citizens.
It said that they need to be safe, but thay also need to have their choices respected. Good services will help people lead great lives, at the same time as being safe from harm or abuse.
It said that Local Councils should write policies and frameworks for making sure 'vulnerable adults' are protected.

A‘ Safe Place’ is an ordinary business or shop that has agreed to offer support if someone has a negative experience when out in their local community. A person can enter the premises and receive help in contacting a trusted person or the police if they have been the victim of a crime. The venue provides a safe place for the person to wait for their trusted person, or the police, to arrive.
