Putting people first

My name is Becky Harris and I am a support broker for people with learning disabilities. I am part of the Putting People First project in Southampton. When people want to have a personal budget, I help them do a support plan to show how they will use their money to meet their needs. I also help people find and organise their support, and make sure they are happy with the service they get.

Putting People First is all about giving people choice and control over the support they need. People can have the money that social services spend on their care, in a personal budget. It is a new way of getting support from social services. You are told how much money you can have, and you decide how you want to spend that money to meet your needs. A Support Broker, your Care Manager and family or friends can help you to do this. You will need to do a support plan to show how you will spend your money. You can contact me on the address below
